Remembering Karen Silkwood

On this day in 1974, Karen Silkwood died in a car crash on her way to meet reporters so that she could tell them what was happening at the Kerr McGee nuclear plant.
…Silkwood had just left a union meeting where another attendee testified that she had a binder and a packet of documents with her. She was found dead in her car, drugged, and with no documents. The official cause of death was that she had fallen asleep and strayed off the road into a concrete wall, but the evidence from independent investigators showed that she had been awake at the time of impact, and that her car had been hit from the rear, probably causing the wreck.
